The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a distant, Hindu nationalist organization has called religion-based reservation unconstitutional. The statement has come amid a debate on the decision of the Congress government of Karnataka to provide 4 percent reservation for Muslims in government contracts. The RSS cited the Indian Constitution and said, “Dharma-based reservation is not accepted in the constitution written by Babasaheb Ambedkar.”
RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said on Sunday that religion -based reservation goes against the architect of the Indian Constitution, BR Ambedkar.
Dattatreya Hosabale was in Bengaluru, Along with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat to Inaugurate a Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, The Highest Decision Making Body of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Shan (RSS). The sabha was inaurated on Friday.
Addressing reporters on Sunday, Hosabale said, “Dharma-based reservation is not accepted in the constitution written by Babasaheb Ambedkar. Any person who is going against the architect of our Constitution is going against the architect of our Constitution.”
The RSS leader also stated that the previous efforts by undivided undivided Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were kept separate by the High Courts and the Supreme Court to introduce dharma-based reservation for Muslims.
Karnataka provides 4% reservation for Muslims
A bill was passed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly to provide 4% reservation for Muslims in public contracts.
