Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday asked children and youth to spend more time in reading books enhancing knowledge and creativity, and spent less time on smartphones.
Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth Gomti Book Festival at Lucknow University on Saturday, Adityanath said, “For the next nine days, the book fair will run at the University of Lucknow, where visitors will experience a grand confluence of knowledge and literature.”
He urged children and youth to spend less time on smartphones and dedicate at least one hour to read creative and knowledge-enhancing books.
Citing examples of Indian sages and seer, Adityanath said that saints like Yajnavalkya showed the path of knowledge to society. Describing the story of Rishi Yajnavali and his wives Katyani and Maitreya, he said that the chase of knowledge should be the highest goal of life.
He emphasized that reading and progress have always been a part of India’s legacy, coaling with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message, “When citizens study, leads the country.”
Adityanath, while highlighting the message of ‘Health Nari, Sashkat Samaj’, said that if women are healthy, then society and nation will also be strong.
He appealed to the children of all schools in Lucknow to participate in the book festival and urged each student to buy at least one book.
While presenting the children with a book called ‘Exam Warriors’ written by Modi, the Chief Minister said that if children read it carefully, it will be easy to achieve success in any exam or competition.
Additionally, Adityanath presented books to schoolgirls and Anganwadi workers present at the event.
The Book Festival will run from 20 to 28 September.
