Kathmandu. Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud reached Nepal at 4 pm on Friday on his three-day official visit. This is the first visit to Nepal by a sitting Chief Justice of India. During this, he will meet his Nepali counterpart and address a seminar on child rights. He reached here on the invitation of Nepal’s Chief Justice Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha. Justice Chandrachud was welcomed by Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of Nepal, on his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Nepal’s Supreme Court spokesperson Ved Prasad Upreti said, ‘This is the first time in history that a sitting Chief Justice of India made an official visit to Nepal.’ Justice Chandrachud will be the keynote speaker at the national seminar on child rights being organized by the Central Child Justice Committee in Kathmandu on Saturday.

According to Upreti, Justice Chandrachud will hold a friendly meeting with the Chief Justice of Nepal the same evening. He told that Justice Shrestha will also organize a dinner in honor of his Indian counterpart. Justice Chandrachud will return on Sunday after completing his official visit.
It is noteworthy that in November last year, two judges of Nepal witnessed the court proceedings of CJI DY Chandrachud. During this he said, ‘I welcome two very distinguished judges to our bench.’ Meanwhile, CJI had also announced that they are going to organize an India-Nepal exchange program soon.
It is known that more than 200 representatives had participated in the conference organized by CJI. The conference brought together Chief Justices, Justice Ministers, legal aid officials, policy makers and civil society experts from 70 Africa-Asia-Pacific countries of the Global South to discuss challenges and opportunities in ensuring access to quality legal aid services for the poor. were brought together.
