Chaitra Navratri, a major Hindu festival celebrated across the world, occurs during the Hindu month of Chaitra. Derived from ‘Nav’ meaning nine and ‘Ratri’ meaning nights, Navratri consists of nine nights of intense worship. Devotees worship nine forms of Goddess Durga: Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalaratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri. This year this festival is celebrated from 9 to 17 April. Devotees fast and pray during the several days of celebration. Rama Navami, or the birthday of Lord Rama, marks the end of the festival.

Who is Maa Chandraghanta? Know the importance
Maa Chandraghanta is the married incarnation of Maa Parvati. According to Drik Panchang, Maa Mahagauri, after marrying Lord Shiva, started decorating her forehead with a crescent moon. She became famous by the name of Goddess Chandraghanta. He is shown riding a tigress and holding 10 hands, four right hands holding a lotus flower, an arrow, bow and chanting rosary, the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra and the fifth left hand in Varada Mudra.
It is said that Mother Chandraghanta is Mother Parvati in her calm form. It is said that the moon on his forehead and the sound of the bell drive away all kinds of spirits from his devotees. Legend has it that the sound of its bell has defeated many demons during wars, and sent them to the abode of the god of death.
Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 3: Date, time and auspicious time
The third day of Chaitra Navratri will be celebrated on Thursday. According to Drik Panchang, the auspicious time to celebrate this occasion is as follows; Tritiya Tithi starts at 5:32 pm. Meanwhile, moonrise will happen at 07:33 pm. Vijay Muhurta will be from 2:30 pm to 5:21 pm. Lastly, Ravi Yoga is from 06:00 AM on April 11 and will end at 1:38 AM on April 12.

On the third day of Navratri, wear yellow clothes and pay homage to Goddess Chandraghanta, the symbol of peace and stability. Wearing yellow fills people with immense happiness, optimism and anticipation throughout the day as such warm colors have a profound effect on uplifting the spirits and promoting happiness.
Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 3: Puja vidhi and rituals
On the second day of Chaitra Navratri, according to Drik Panchang, devotees worship Maa Chandraghanta along with Lord Shiva and observe a fast to seek divine blessings. Traditional rituals include offering jasmine flowers, rice and sandalwood in a kalash to Maa Chandraghanta, followed by abhishekam with milk, curd and honey. Devotees also prepare special sugar offerings for the Goddess during Navratri.
Waking up early in the morning, devotees adorn themselves and light a ghee lamp while offering flowers or garlands to the Lord. Sindoor or kumkum is presented along with jewelery and home-made sweets. There is also a tradition of reciting Durga Saptashati Path and Durga Chalisa. In the evening, after the Aarti of Maa Durga, Bhog Prasad is offered. To break the fast, devotees consume sattvic food while avoiding tamasic food like onion and garlic.
