The university is exploiting the search firms to recruit C-suit level officials and expat academics for the roles of the university dean, vice-chancellor, business administration heads and Provost, many industry officials said, with hiring springs, are already the product of major appointments.

Some of the top positions in universities now include Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief and Culture Officer, and Outreach and Marketing Head, more general designations in corporates.
In January, Southampton University appointed Vishal Talwar, former director of IMT Ghaziabad, as COO of its upcoming Delhi campus. On LinkedIn, Talwar wrote, “These are exciting times in the Indian highest education place, and I am eager to work with colleagues in the UK and India, which is to set up a world level benchmark campus in Gurugram of Southampton University, Delhi NCR.”

About one and a half years ago, a chief administrative officer hired by the Indian School of Business (ISB) from Op Jindal Global University has brought valuable expertise, said Professor of Madan Pilutal, Dean and Organizational Behavior.

Questions sent to universities late Tuesday evening did not respond at the time of publication. The University of Wolongong responded to Mint’s questions and confirmed Kalyani’s appointment.

“Over the past decade, more than 300 new universities have come to India,” said partner and leader Narayanan Ramaswamy for education and skill development practice at the counseling firm KPMG. “This is probably the best time for a tenure with a leadership Libra to find out the opportunities of these universities for leadership positions.”
