According to the latest notification released by CBSE, students who have studied basic mathematics in Class 10 will now be allowed to take the course as an appropriate subject in Class 11.
To make mathematics easier for students, CBSE gives the option for students to choose between basic and standard mathematics in class 10. Basic Mathematics is for those students who do not want to choose this subject in class 11 and 12.
CBSE has recently introduced a new policy for class 11 students. According to the latest notification released by CBSE, students who have studied basic mathematics in class 10 will now be allowed to take the course as an appropriate subject in class 11. The policies allowed that students who had taken basic mathematics in class 10 were not allowed to take this subject in the next class and could only choose applied mathematics.
“For the session 2024-2025 also, several changes are proposed due to NEP, therefore, after detailed deliberations, the following decision has been taken by the Board. The relaxation in this rule will continue further only for the academic session 2024-25. Thus, students who have offered Mathematics Basic (241) are also allowed to offer Mathematics (041) in class X1,” the board said in an official statement.
Irrespective of the notification, the school has full discretion, and they have to ensure that the students have the right aptitude and ability to take mathematics in senior classes. If they feel that students lack aptitude then they can stop them from taking the subject. The notification further states, “Before allowing such students to pursue Mathematics Standard (041), the Head of the Institution/School should be satisfied that the student has the right aptitude to pursue Mathematics Standard (041) in Class 11 There has to be more capacity.”
CBSE has made it official that whatever subject the students choose from the List of Candidates (LOC), they will not be allowed to make any changes later. As a result, students need to choose their options carefully before making the right decision.
