A CBI team on Wednesday visited a school in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh and questioned its principal in connection with alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET.
The CBI team questioned Dr Ehsanul Haque, principal of Oasis School, who was the district coordinator of the NEET-UG exam in Hazaribagh, for several hours and took him to a guest house in Charhi, Hazaribagh, where he and some others were questioned till late in the evening, sources said.
Hazaribagh Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kumar Shivashish said he came to know about the investigation from other sources but had not been officially informed in this regard.
Sources said a 12-member CBI team reached Hazaribagh on Tuesday evening. An eight-member team visited the school on Wednesday and some members of the team also visited the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in the district as the bank manager was allegedly the custodian of the question papers.
Sources said the bank had allegedly received the question papers sent in an e-rickshaw by a courier service operator.
However, the members of the CBI team refused to tell anything to the media persons. They said that they will submit the investigation report to their headquarters.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Haque had denied any tampering of question papers in Hazaribagh and termed the allegations baseless.
Earlier, a three-member investigation team of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police had visited the school on June 23 and inquired about the conduct of the examination and the arrangement for opening the digital locks of the question paper boxes.
On June 21, Bihar Police detained six people from Jharkhand’s Deoghar district in connection with alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam.
The NTA conducted the NEET-UG on May 5, in which around 24 lakh candidates appeared. The results were declared on June 4, but after this, there were allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in states like Bihar.
