Canada Happy Diwali: Marty Belanger, upset with Netflix’s email on Diwali, abused Indians on social media, due to which he got trolled. Mississauga City Council did not ban fireworks.
Marty Belanger got trolled badly on social media.New Delhi. A person has become so upset with the wishes received on Diwali that he did not even hesitate in using abusive words. And this is where he made a mistake. This action of his made him trolled badly on social media. A Canadian man’s anger after receiving an email with Diwali wishes went viral on social media. He left no stone unturned in abusing Indians and was also trolled for this anger. Diwali is a Hindu festival which has become popular in other countries also due to the large number of expatriate Indians. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney attended a Diwali celebration in the Greater Toronto Area on Friday and said that Diwali means the victory of light over darkness.
However, Marty Belanger, a professional engineer from Alberta, does not like Diwali. He clarified that he was upset after receiving an email from Netflix. Belanger was surprised that even after collecting all his personal data, service providers and vendors did not know that he did not celebrate Diwali. Marty wrote, “You already know everything about me by collecting all my personal information. I repeat. I am a middle-aged white man from Alberta who likes war movies, science fiction and real crime documentaries. Stop sending me this nonsense.”
Marty wrote, “I don’t care that third world immigrants are coming into my country and celebrating festivals.” There were mixed reactions in the comment section of his post. Many Canadians were adamant that they never received such an email from companies on Christmas. Some reported that he was easily irritated by an email, when he could have easily ignored it. He was also called homeless and trash for his anger on Diwali. A few days ago, a picture of Diwali themed chocolates being sold in a Canadian store became the center of a controversy.
This year Diwali was in the news in Canada, Mississauga City Council decided not to ban fireworks on Diwali. On 15 October, the council decided that they would not ban fireworks, but would introduce stricter rules aimed at reducing noise, injuries and property damage. The new rules include shorter hours for firing fireworks (between 6 pm to 10 pm on all holidays, except New Year’s Eve, where fireworks are allowed from 11 pm to 1 am), a ban on Roman candles, reduced sales periods and making it mandatory for licensed sellers to file inventory and sales figures. Mississauga now bans the sale of fireworks on holiday days to prevent last-minute shopping.
