According to news agency Xinhua, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) informed that so far 49 people have been infected by the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak in 10 states, most of which are in Colorado and Nebraska. The agency said that out of the 28 people in whom this disease has been found, 10 have been admitted to the hospital and one has been diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome.

According to the CDC, most of the patients became ill from eating McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers. McDonald’s responded that “we have instructed all restaurants to remove this burger from the menu due to safety protocols.” Apart from this, we have stopped the distribution of all cut onions in the affected area.” Shares of McDonald’s fell more than 9 percent Tuesday after the CDC announced an E. coli outbreak.
