According to a report released on Thursday by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the owner of CATS lived in separate houses in Michigan and developed Symptoms of H5N1 in the last May. Both of them worked on the fields that had bird flu cases and showed symptoms before cats fell ill, but refused to test.
While human infections are rare during the current outbreak of H5N1 bird flu, with the same death, more than a dozen American states have reported infected cattle. The virus has killed hundreds of people over the last decades, and it suggests that it has jumped from cows to cats, indicating that it can be taken more infectious.
One of the cats was known to roll around in the dirty clothes of the worker, showing that the virus could spread from cloth to the cat. Both cats displayed respiratory and neurological issues after infection, stating in the report.
External cats have died due to H5N1 infection after drinking raw milk for infected animals including cattle and chicken or exposed to infected animals. CDC’s sickness and mortality was the first to find indoor cats with infection published in the weekly report.
The New York Times earlier reported that the report was originally posted on the CDC website before being taken down during the US Health and Human Services Communications Freeze.
Efforts by the Trump administration to cut the budget and implement widespread government pruning in several health agencies have raised questions about the government’s response to the data-sharing during outbreak and confusion. Earlier this week, the US Department of Agriculture said that officials keeping an eye on bird flu were accidentally fired and working to restore employees.
Twenty -four veterinary staff members interacted with infected cats. According to the CDC report, seven of them reported the symptoms of the disease, but the five who agreed for the test did not have bird flu virus.
The CDC stated that the risk for human health is low, but dairy advises workers to wear protective equipment when working with exposed animals.
