On suspicion of tractor theft, angry local people beat a man from Bihar to death on Saturday night. The horrific incident took place in Muzaffarpur district when Shambhu Sahni was caught while trying to steal a vehicle along with two others. He was reportedly captured while begging for mercy and beaten for hours in the cold.
Scenes from the crime scene show the victim lying on the ground with his hands tied together and his legs tied to a nearby vehicle. People could be seen standing a few feet away and recording the scene with their mobile phones as Sahni lay lying down with grass stuck to his face and hair.
Police told NDTV, “The youth was accused of stealing a tractor and the tractor owner, along with anti-social elements, beat him up and killed him.”
Villagers told the publication that Sahni had come in the dark of night with three other people to steal the tractor. However, the owner of the tractor woke up hearing the loud noise and raised the alarm. After a chase for some time, the villagers caught the deceased, while his alleged accomplices escaped.
According to reports, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police said that tractor owner Ganga Sahni and his nephew Pukar Sahni have been made the main accused in the murder case.
