While regular oiling, spas and exfoliation are recommended, medical experts believe that eating the right kind of food can make you glow from the inside out. For starters, it is advisable to consume fresh fruits, vegetables and juices in the right amounts.

Why do skin and hair suffer?

No matter how good your personal care products are, if you sleep less than seven to eight hours, it can have an impact on your hair and skin. Apart from dark circles, premature ageing and wrinkles, the skin can lose its natural glow and look very dull. Pollution and excessive exposure to the sun can also aggravate your skin problems, leading to breakouts, whiteheads and blackheads, acne due to the sun and patchy tanning. Similarly, your hair will also be affected and show signs of dullness, dryness, hair fall and even obstructed hair follicles. Add a poor diet to this situation, and it is absolutely disastrous in both cases.

Here are some foods that can help maintain glowing skin and shiny hair:

Include antioxidant-rich foods: Foods like cocoa, beans, green vegetables, beets, carrots, red cabbage, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cherries and even coffee are good for your skin. In addition to saying goodbye to alcohol, sweet foods and desserts, avoid fried, spicy, frozen and trans-fat-rich foods.

Eggs: Eggs help thicken hair due to the presence of folate, protein, biotin, vitamin A and vitamin E. They are also rich in lutein and protein, which help retain moisture and fight signs of ageing like wrinkles, fine lines, rough, uneven skin and sun damage. They also make the skin glow.

Green tea: Any kind of skin damage, premature ageing and inflammation can be easily tackled if you consume a cup of green tea daily. Green tea also acts as a great solution for UV damage and reduces hair fall due to the presence of polyphenols. Once you start consuming green tea, you can say goodbye to hair fall as well.

Seeds and nuts: Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds and other foods are rich in omega-3 fats and vitamin E which are great for the skin. They also prevent hair damage, hair loss and promote blood circulation in the scalp leading to healthy hair.

Fruit power: The king of fruits- mango- is great for hair growth due to the presence of vitamin A. Fruits like avocado hydrate the skin and hair, while oranges exfoliate the skin due to the presence of citric acid. They also help in removing and reducing acne. Grapes help with problems like dandruff, hair loss and also prevent wrinkles on the skin, as the presence of vitamin C in it helps in collagen production.

Make sure you include water in your diet and drink at least six to eight glasses of water daily. Water increases skin elasticity and prevents dryness. It also acts as a defense mechanism against premature ageing. Water prevents hair breakage and prevents itchy scalp, dandruff and other conditions. It is also great at taming frizzy hair.

You can also include cold beverages like lemonade, natural juices and vegetable juices to keep your skin happy and your hair shiny. It is also advisable to take a walk for half an hour daily or do exercises like swimming, walking, cycling, jogging.
