There has been a lot of talk of a breakup and divorce between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck this summer as the two have been spending a lot of time apart. Hollywood sources have claimed that Affleck had to end the relationship with J.Lo to protect his sobriety. The singer’s ‘glam style’ was increasing the risk of sobriety for her husband.

Affleck quit his job because of JLo’s ‘glam lifestyle’
A source said the couple’s relationship broke down because of Lopez’s lifestyle. “The marriage was incredibly stressful – J.Lo lives a very lavish lifestyle, and she often succumbed to temptation,” the source said.
The Batman actor has had problems with alcohol and has been attending rehab centers to get rid of alcoholism. It is said that he was “risking his sobriety in that environment” as his wife launches her own liquor line, Deola, in 2023. So he “had to quit to avoid his worst nightmare – a relapse,” sources claimed, as reported by RadarOnline.
In 2023, the On the Floor singer confirmed that she “enjoys the occasional cocktail” after several years of not drinking. She added, “I drink responsibly. I don’t drink to get drunk.” However, for some who are struggling with alcohol, like Affleck, “there’s no middle ground.”
An insider said, “It’s really unhealthy for him to be around alcohol of any kind. And with J.Lo, the drinking habit coupled with parties and being surrounded by fake people who treated her special because of her fame was a trigger for him.”

an unhappy marriage
In a 2021 interview, Affleck discussed his divorce from his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and said that when he wasn’t happy in his previous marriage, alcohol seemed like a solution. He said, “That’s why I started drinking… because I was stuck. I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out to be the solution.” He split from his Garner in 2015 and went into rehab in 2017. The Electra actor staged an intervention in 2018 and took him to rehab.
Affleck is currently going through a new period of singlehood following rumors of a feud with Lopez. He spent his entire summer in Los Angeles working on the set of his upcoming film The Accountant 2.
An insider said, “He’s moving on. He’s done. This is how Ben deals with adversity now that he’s committed to staying sober: He’s all in and focused on the task at hand. He doesn’t look back. Ultimately, ending the marriage was the best decision. If Ben hadn’t ended the marriage, many believe he would have eventually started drinking again — and that would have been a disaster.”
