Jyotsna, a student from a lower class family, emerged from the darkness of poverty and shone like a rare star. He made the entire Bankura proud by scoring 484 marks out of 500 in the board exams. He got 97.4 percent marks. According to reports, he chose Santali language to appear in the exam. When asked about her struggles, Jyotsna said that she could not spend even a day in the fields or doing daily wage work, as it would make it impossible for her to put food on her plate the whole day. She expresses interest in becoming a teacher if her parents can afford her further studies. Her father Shukdev Kisku and mother Sharmila Devi assured her that they wanted to help her continue her studies in any way they could.
According to Jyotsna, her school headmaster Kaushik Chatterjee and other teachers helped her reach this milestone.
This year, out of 7.5 lakh students who appeared in the examination, 90 percent candidates have passed. Students needed to score only 33 percent marks to pass the exam. This year the passing percentage increased by 2 percent.
