Haryana Assembly Election 2024: Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah took a dig at senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s ‘Haryana Maange Hisaab’ campaign, demanding accountability for what he termed as a decade of misgovernance and an obstacle to Haryana’s progress.
“I am the son of a merchant, I keep track of every payment. [I am the son of a Baniya (merchant community), I have come with an account every single penny]Amit Shah said.
He said, “You give an account of corruption in jobs, spread of casteism, injustice with downtrodden people and nepotism.
He said, “What account do you want? We will give you an account of things and the people of Haryana will seek an account from the Congress.”
Amit Shah also urged the public, including BJP workers, to demand an audit of the funds allocated for development projects during the 10-year tenure of the Congress.
On Monday, the Congress launched the ‘Haryana Maange Hisaab’ campaign, aimed at criticising the ruling BJP over issues such as unemployment and law and order in the run-up to the upcoming assembly elections.
This is Amit Shah’s second visit to Haryana within a month after he addressed BJP leaders and workers at the party’s extended state executive meeting in Panchkula on June 29.
Speaking at the ‘Pichhda Varg Samman Sammelan’ in Mahendragarh, Haryana, BJP leader Amit Shah criticised the previous Congress governments at both the state and central levels. He alleged that from 2004 to 2014, these governments allocated funds only for the backward classes. Rs 41,000 crore has been given for development projects in Haryana. In contrast, Shah highlighted that the BJP-led government, known for its ‘double engine’ approach, has given Rs 41,000 crore for development projects. Provision of Rs 2.59 lakh crore for development in the state.
Amit Shah accused the Congress of being anti-backward class and said that if the party comes to power in Haryana, it will abolish the reservation meant for backward classes and replace it with reservation for Muslims.
Amit Shah said, “I want to assure you that we (BJP) will not allow Muslim reservation in Haryana. We will protect the rights of the backward classes.”
Haryana Assembly elections are due to be held later this year.
