Sunny Deol has recently announced the remake of his 1997 film Border 2. There were speculations that the film, directed by Anurag Singh, will star Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role alongside Sunny. However, now a Mid-Day report quotes a source as saying that after months of talks, Ayushmann has left Border 2 as he was unsure about his role in the Sunny-led film. Is this the reason why Ayushmann left Border 2?
The source told the portal, “Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. Both Ayushmann and the producer were keen to collaborate, but the actor felt uncertain about his position in a team led by Sunny Deol, who is a big star in his own right.”
Recently, rumours also stated that the war drama will feature Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role. Talking about this, the source said, “Nothing has been confirmed as of now. But Diljit has been approached by the makers. Given his strong audience base in North India, it will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen.” The film is expected to go on the floors by November.

Director JP Dutta’s cult classic Border completes 27 years in June 2024 and Sunny Deol gave fans a big surprise by announcing the sequel Border 2. On Instagram, Sunny released an announcement video, in which he said, “27 years ago a soldier promised that he would return. To fulfill that promise, to say his salute to the soil of Hindustan, he is coming.”
Sharing the video, he wrote, “Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse (A soldier is returning after 27 years to keep his promise). India’s biggest war film, Border 2, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta; will be directed by Anurag Singh.”
Reportedly, the story of Border 2 is set in the same location as the Battle of Longewala. Border, released in 1997, is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The patriotic film featured Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. Not just for the plot and the performances of the actors, but the film also won hearts for its beautiful musical score. Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam’s song Sandese Aate Hain was a huge hit.
