Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said action will be taken against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for inciting violence during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ and he will be arrested after the Lok Sabha elections 2024. A day after this, Assam Police filed a suo motu FIR against Rahul Gandhi for “unruly acts of violence” in Guwahati during his nationwide tour.
”We have registered an FIR. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will investigate and he (Gandhi) will be arrested after the Lok Sabha elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on the sidelines of the event in the state’s Sibsagar district.
Himanta Biswa Sarma directed Director General of Police GP Singh to register a case against Rahul Gandhi for instigating the mob, which clashed with police as the Congress leader wanted to enter Guwahati city. Several Congress workers, including state party president Bhupen Bora and the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, were injured in the clash with the police.
Assam Police said four policemen were injured after Congress workers tried to break the barricade. They have charged Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, assault, or using criminal force to prevent public servants from discharging their duty, damaging public property and others.
The DGP said the case has been transferred to the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Additional Director General of Police (CID) will investigate the case.
‘Himanta Biswa Sarma is the most corrupt CM’: Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday resumed his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Barpeta in Assam and targeted the Assam Chief Minister, calling him the “most corrupt Chief Minister”. Your (pointing towards the public) lands. He is the most corrupt chief minister,” the Congress leader said.
“We’re getting publicity that we probably wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has become the main issue in Assam. Stopping people from going to temple and college…this is their style. “Intimidation tactics, we are not intimidated by them, we are not afraid of them,” he said.
