Between a leadership change in Karnataka and the report of disintegration within the Congress, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivkumar are likely to visit Delhi to meet the party’s high command.
According to the news agency PTI, the two leaders are expected to meet the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday evening, citing sources.
Congress General Secretary and in -charge in Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewal, is currently in Bengaluru, holds meetings with the state ministers and MLAs to solve their concerns.
On Tuesday, Surjewal refused to comment on the ongoing discussions about a leadership change in the state, suggesting that the issue is no longer relevant and shows that such decisions rest with the high command of the party.
Meanwhile, Vijayendra’s state president claimed that the Congress General Secretary is preparing the basis for change of leadership till November or December.
Some Congress MLAs are allegedly upset with the Siddaramaiah government. Kagawad MLA Raju Cage had threatened to resign on lack of development in his constituency.
Aland MLA Bra Patil recently alleged corruption in a housing scheme for poor families.
Another Congress MLA, Belur Gopal Krishna, has demanded the resignation of Housing Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan.
After winning the assembly elections in May 2023, the Congress convinced Shivkumar to accept the post of deputy CM.
At that time, according to some reports, an agreement was signed on the basis of “Ghinya Chief Minister Formula”, under which Shivkumar will take over as CM in November 2025 after two-and-a-half years.
Amidst Surjewal meetings with party MLAs, Siddaramaiah claimed that he would complete his five -year term.
In response, some Congress MLAs, including Ramnagar MLA Ha Iqbal Hussain from Shivkumar Camp, insisted that they want their leaders to become CM. Shivkumar, who is also the state president of the Congress, said that he would follow the party line and issue a show-work notice to his supporter MLA MLA Hussain for his statement.
