Arvind Kejriwal hearing live updates: The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against the Delhi High Court order upholding his arrest by the CBI on charges related to irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The Supreme Court will also hear a separate plea of Kejriwal seeking bail in the case.
A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan will hear both the petitions of the Aam Aadmi Party convener.
On Monday, the apex court had agreed to hear Kejriwal’s plea after senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for him, requested for urgent listing of it.
The Delhi High Court had on August 5 upheld the chief minister’s arrest and said there was no malice in the actions of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), showing how the AAP supremo could influence witnesses who could muster the courage to testify only after his arrest.
The High Court had asked him to approach the lower court for regular bail in the CBI case.
The high court had said that the circle of evidence against the chief minister was closed after the CBI collected relevant evidence following his arrest and it cannot be said that it was without any reasonable cause or illegal.
It was said that Kejriwal is not an ordinary citizen but a Magsaysay Award winner and convener of the Aam Aadmi Party.
“His control and influence over the witnesses is prima facie evident from the fact that these witnesses could muster the courage to testify only after the arrest of the petitioner, as highlighted by the Special Prosecutor.
“Further, it is established that the circle of evidence against the petitioner stood closed after collection of relevant evidence following his arrest. No mala fide can be inferred from the acts of the respondent (CBI),” the high court had said.

Arvind Kejriwal hearing live: Rouse Court extends Kejriwal’s judicial custody till August 20
In the Delhi Excise Policy CBI case, the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of CM Arvind Kejriwal till August 20. The AAP leader was produced via video conferencing from Tihar Jail.
The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed the petition of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case. The Delhi High Court said that it cannot be said that the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has happened without any reasonable cause. In the case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought a short adjournment to consider its petition to cancel the bail granted to CM Kejriwal.

The Supreme Court will hear two petitions.
1. The apex court will hear Kejriwal’s plea against the Delhi High Court order upholding his arrest by the CBI in the corruption case arising out of the alleged excise policy scam.
2. The apex court will also hear separately the plea of Kejriwal seeking bail in this case.

Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on July 12 in the money laundering case. Earlier, he was granted regular bail by the trial court on June 20. However, he has not been released from jail as he is currently in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same Delhi liquor policy case.
