Are you planning to buy a car? Cars will become expensive as soon as this rule comes into force

New Delhi. If you are thinking of buying a car in the coming few years, then you may have to pay a higher price. To deal with pollution, many amendments have been made in the emission rules in the country in the last few years. Due to this, vehicle manufacturing companies have had to improve the engine and emission. Due to this, entry level cars which were available cheap earlier have also become expensive now. According to a report, vehicles have become expensive by 50% since 2018-19. Vehicle prices have increased rapidly since the implementation of BS-6 emission norms in April 2020.

At the same time, now the Central Government agency Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is going to bring such a law which will directly increase the burden on automobile manufacturers to reduce emissions, which will also affect the customers who buy cars and bikes. As a result, cars may become expensive. Under the new proposal of BEE, there is a provision to impose a penalty on vehicle companies in case they are unable to comply with the new emission standards. At the same time, companies will have to find a way to reduce emissions every three years.

What is BEE’s proposal?
The average limit for car companies in the country is 113 grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometer. But if the emission of CO2 exceeds the set limit of 4.7 grams per kilometer, then a proposal has been brought to impose a fine of up to Rs 50,000 per car.

BEE’s new proposal empowers the government to mandate the automobile industry to use non-fossil (petrol-diesel) fuels, set emission standards for vehicles and ships, and accelerate the transition to clean energy.

2 years extra time for change
BEE has proposed strict emission rules in the third phase of Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE). Under this, vehicle companies will have to reduce carbon emissions by one-third in three years. Companies have to give their response to this proposal by July. After this, BEE will issue new guidelines.

Earlier, time was given till April 2027 to adopt the new standards, but under the new proposal, the period has been increased to 5 years. Its target is to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles by 24 percent by the year 2032. Let us tell you that after the implementation of BS-6 emission norms in April 2020, vehicles have become expensive by 30 percent.
