Apple has issued a warning to iPhone and iPad users around the world to update their devices immediately. The company says that a serious security flaw has come to light in its system, taking advantage of which hackers can target users.
According to Apple, this flaw has been found in WebKit, which is the basis of Safari and all browsers running on iOS. The company said that these vulnerabilities are being used in a ‘highly advanced and targeted cyber attack’, in which specific people were targeted.
The biggest reason for this danger is malicious websites. If a user accidentally opens such a website, their iPhone or iPad could run harmful code without permission. With this, hackers can also gain control over the device.
Apple said that the devices of users whose phones have Automatic Updates turned on may have already been secured. But those who have turned off this setting should immediately go and download iOS 26.2 or iPadOS 26.2 manually.
Which devices are most at risk?
The following devices may be specifically affected by this security threat:
- iPhone 11 and all models launched after that
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later models)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later models)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later models)
- iPad (8th generation and later models)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later models)
Apple said that these flaws are Zero-Day Vulnerabilities, that is, there was no information about them earlier and hackers could have used them even before the patch was released.
The threat analysis team of Apple and Google together discovered these flaws. Apart from iOS and iPadOS, the company has also released new security updates for macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS and Safari.
How to keep yourself safe?
According to cyber security expert Kurt Knutsson:
- Keep Automatic Updates turned on on all your Apple devices.
- Do not click on unknown SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram or email links.
- If you want to go to a website, instead of tapping on the link, type the address yourself.
- Use reliable antivirus or security software.
- Keep your personal information limited on social media.
Apple clearly says that for the safety of users, it does not discuss security flaws until their solutions are released. In such a situation, updating is the safest step.
