New Delhi: Amid a controversy over alleged irregularities in the conduct of competitive exams, the National Testing Agency on Friday night released new dates for the cancelled and postponed exams and announced that the UGC-NET will now be held from August 21 to September 4.
The University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC) was cancelled just a day after it was held on June 18 after the Education Ministry received information that the sanctity of the exam had been compromised.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that the question paper was leaked on the darknet and circulated on the Telegram app. The matter is being investigated by the CBI.
UGC-NET is an examination to determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, appointment of Assistant Professors and admission to PhD courses.
Breaking from the previous pattern, this year the exam was conducted in offline mode and on a single day. However, the rescheduled exam will be conducted in a fortnight as per the earlier pattern of a computer-based test.
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET exam, which was postponed as a precautionary measure amid a controversy over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the exams, will now be held from July 25 to July 27.
CSIR UGC-NET is accepted for PhD admission in Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
The National Common Entrance Examination for admission to the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme, which was postponed hours before it was scheduled to begin on June 12, will now be held on July 10.
This exam is conducted for selected central and state universities or institutes, including IITs, NITs, RIEs and government colleges.
Amid criticism over alleged irregularities in medical entrance exam NEET-UG and PhD entrance exam NET, the Centre last week notified a panel to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of the examinations through NTA.
While NEET is under scrutiny for several alleged irregularities, including paper leak, UGC-NET was cancelled after the ministry received information that the sanctity of the exam had been compromised.
