Maternity insurance is not part of many companies.
You should ask if the company’s health insurance has family coverage.
When we get a job, we ask the HR a lot of questions about the role and other benefits to get a better understanding of the company. But if you are a woman then you should ask at least eight basic questions related to insurance to the HR team before joining so that there is no problem of putting extra burden on your pocket when needed. Let’s take a look at the questions that should be asked before joining a company.
1. First of all, you need to know how much health insurance and medical facilities the company covers and what are the rules regarding them. If you are not married yet, you may have questions about the rules after your marriage.
2. You should also clearly ask whether the insurance has family coverage or not. Also, do they cover parents or in-laws? If someone gets married after a few years of joining the job, can parents and in-laws be included in this? Many times companies give the option to decide the nominee on the basis of percentage and there is an option to include parents from both sides also.
3. The woman should also ask about increasing the insurance limit provided by the office in the beginning or after a few years of employment. According to reports, as per rules the insurance should be 8 to 10 times the CTC. That means if there is a package of Rs 20 lakh then there should be an insurance of Rs 2 crore. This includes both personal and office insurance.
4. Maternity insurance is not a part of many companies. Therefore, before joining, the rules regarding maternity leave, leave without pay etc. should be discussed in detail.
5. Term Insurance or Life Insurance: If your work involves machines, you must have a clear understanding of whether your insurance plan covers the risks arising from your work.
6. The company’s term insurance covers accidents but is there any provision regarding permanent disability in the company’s insurance? So you must ask: If a permanent disability occurs, will it be covered or not? Permanent disability includes amputation of both arms and legs, amputation of one arm or one leg, or loss of both eyes. However, permanent disability does not include coma and paralysis.
7. Does your company offer super annuity (post-retirement) plan? Anyone can ask whether this scheme will be available after retirement or not.
8. How much insurance coverage is provided by the office? Is it cash or cashless? Additionally, a woman should also discuss the rules for sick leave and vacation encashment.
