He also pointed out that winter meals often include a balance of grains, pulses and vegetables. “There is also a green vegetable eaten here, cholai,” said Rujuta, underscoring how seasonal vegetables play an important role in winter nutrition.

Beyond food, Rujuta shared a simple life lesson she once learned from an elderly man, highlighting the role of mindset in dealing with winter. Recalling the incident, he said, “I learned a very good kahwat (proverb) from an old wise man. His grandson was complaining, ‘Dadaji, mujhe bahut thand lag rahi hai’ (Grandfather, I am feeling very cold).”
According to Rujuta, Dada’s reaction has a deep meaning. “Grandfather said to him, ‘You hold the cold,'” she said. “So the child stood up with his chest exposed, and the cold went away.”
Taking inspiration from the story, Rujuta emphasized that resilience and attitude matter as much as diet. “I think in North India, there is a very good jugaad (a smart, practical solution for everything) for everything,” he said, “You don’t just need food, you also need attitude.,
