Does putting a cover on the phone slow down the network? People make mistakes and don’t know how to test.

In today’s time, mobile phones have become an important part of our lives, but sometimes the problem of sudden weak signal, call drop or slow internet troubles us. In such a situation, most of the people blame the network company or the phone, whereas one of the reasons for this could also be your mobile cover. Does phone cover really affect the signal? Let us know the whole truth of this question.

There is an antenna inside the mobile, which contacts the nearby mobile tower through radio waves. These signals are very delicate. If there is any obstruction between the antenna and the tower, the signal may become weak. If the phone cover is made of metal or magnetic plate, then the signal may become weak due to such cover. This happens because metal creates obstructions in the path of radio waves. If there is metal near the antenna, the signal is either reflected or absorbed.

Very thick covers, those made of hard plastic, rubber or multi-layers, can also affect the signal to some extent. Especially in places where the network is already weak, like basements, elevators or rural areas.

Some covers are sold in the name of radiation protection. A special type of material is used in such covers, which reduces radiation. But along with this they can also weaken the mobile signal.

Nowadays, the most commonly used silicone, TPU and soft plastic covers do not have any significant effect on the mobile signal. This is because they allow radio waves to pass through easily.

The company’s original covers are slim and lightweight. These are made keeping in mind the antenna design of the phone. Therefore, there is usually no problem of weak signal in these.

If the signal is decreasing due to the phone cover, then some of its symptoms may be visible, such as less visible network bar, dropped calls, slow internet, not getting network in indoor area, battery draining quickly and the phone keeps searching for towers again and again.

Now to identify whether the signal is really being reduced due to the phone cover, you can do a simple test. First remove the cover of the phone and check the signal bars at the same place and test the call or internet speed. Then put the cover and do the same test again. If you feel a clear difference, then the phone cover may be the reason for the low signal. In such a situation, it would be better to change the cover.
