The government has said that in order to make cyber security accessible to the common people, it had decided to pre-install Sanchar Saathi app in smartphones, but now this rule has been withdrawn. The government has made it clear that this app is completely safe and its purpose is only to protect people from cyber criminals.
According to the government, the Sanchar Saathi app provides an easy way for people to report cyber fraud and suspicious activities through “Jan Bhagidari”. There is no such feature in the app which affects the privacy of the user. If people want, they can remove this app from their phone anytime.

So far, more than 1.4 crore people have downloaded this app and are sharing information about about 2,000 cyber fraud related cases every day. The government says that pre-installation arrangements were made to reach the app to less aware citizens, so that more people can use it easily.
In the last 24 hours alone, 6 lakh new users have registered to download the app, which is 10 times more than the daily average. The government is considering this as proof that citizens are trusting this app for their digital security. Seeing the increasing popularity of Sanchar Saathi, the government has now decided to remove the obligation of mobile companies to compulsorily pre-install it.
What is Sanchar Sathi App?
Sanchar Sathi app is a digital security tool designed to protect mobile users from problems related to fraud, theft and fake SIMs. It was started as a web portal in 2023, but amid increasing needs and increasing online fraud, the government launched it as a full mobile app in January 2025. It is available for free on both Android and iOS and connects directly to the government’s CEIR system, where the IMEI number of every mobile is recorded. Its purpose is to provide every user with security related to his phone and his identity at one place.

When the user opens the app, first of all it gets the mobile number verified. After the number is confirmed through OTP, the app recognizes the IMEI number of your phone and matches it with the CEIR database. This shows whether the phone is genuine, stolen or in the blacklist.
