Zootopia 2 beats Avengers: Endgame in China
The return of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde is a hit in China, where Zootopia 2 is currently the biggest studio film of the year and the best opening for an American film since 2021. In local currency terms, it has overtaken Avengers: Endgame as the highest single-day gross for a Hollywood film in the market, and its surprise Saturday numbers represent a massive 160 percent increase over Friday. Avengers: Endgame collected $100 million at the box office on its opening day in China.
Zootopia 2 takes first place among Friday Europe openers, except in the UK, where Wicked: For Good continues to attract moviegoers. The film achieved the highest animation opening day of 2025 and the third highest opening day for Walt Disney Animation Studios behind Frozen 2 and Moana.

Zootopia 2 co-directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard
Co-directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard told Variety that Zootopia 2 tried to pay homage to horror classics like The Shining and The Silence of the Lambs. Bush said, “We had this idea of these Links who were obviously villains, and it made sense to have this grand manor and then this huge maze behind it.”
Bush also praised Michael Giacchino’s appropriate score. He said, “They took a theme that’s very famous, and as soon as you hear it, you know exactly where you are.”
