A 13-year-old national-level figure skater jumped from the third floor of her school building in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam after her principal threatened to “end her career,” suspend her and “take away her medals.” The incident took place at a private school in Dongre Nagar on Friday and has raised serious concerns over the handling of discipline within the institution.
The Class VIII student, who has twice represented his district in national skating events, was taken to a private hospital in a critical condition. His condition is now said to be stable.
According to officials, the incident began on Thursday when the student brought his mobile phone to school against the rules and recorded a video inside his classroom.
Later he posted the video on social media. When the administration found out, his parents were called to school the next morning to discuss the issue.
The CCTV footage, which has now been examined by the authorities, shows the boy walking into the principal’s office. He stayed there for about four minutes and kept apologizing again and again. According to the footage, she said “sorry” 52 times while appearing frightened and distressed.
The boy later told his parents and authorities that the principal had allegedly threatened to “end his career,” suspend him and “take away his medals.”

He got scared after hearing this. The young skater, who had earned a strong reputation for his discipline and talent, was devastated to hear this.
Moments after leaving the office, the footage shows him running down the corridor and suddenly jumping over the railing from the third floor.
What makes this incident even more heartbreaking is that the child’s father was already at school and was waiting to meet his son. He had no idea that the matter had escalated to this extent.
“I was invited to meet my son. When I reached school, I learned that he had fallen…he has played nationals twice in skating. I got a call from the school, but then another call from the school and I was asked to come straight to the hospital,” said his father, Pritam Katara.

SDM Archie Harit confirmed that bringing mobile phones to school is against the rules and said that teachers are also not allowed to have phones.
Harit said, “The boy is in 8th class. He had brought his phone. He ran and jumped. His condition is stable. Will be examined… He is a very good position skater at the national level.”
The school says they wanted to talk to the father before taking any action.
District Education Officer Anita Sagar assured action in the matter and said that investigation is currently underway.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Action will be taken after the investigation is completed… We have written a letter to the police to investigate… The student’s family is demanding action against the school administration.”
