To gain admission into India’s premier engineering institutes like the IITs, students have to crack JEE Advanced, one of the most challenging exams in the country. Around 250,000 students appear for this exam every year, but only a few thousand are successful in getting admission in IITs.
Among these achievers, one emerged as a topper, earning All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced and securing a place at IIT Bombay.
Why did he decide to leave IIT Bombay?
The story revolves around Chitrang Murdia, who secured AIR 1 in JEE Advanced 2014 and got admission into the Computer Science Engineering program at IIT Bombay. However, Murdia’s aspirations extended beyond studying at India’s top institution; His goal was to do engineering from the best institute in the world. As a result, after spending some time at IIT Bombay, he decided to leave. He sought a degree in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
His IIT departure took everyone by surprise
Chitrang Murdia’s decision to give up his seat at IIT Bombay took both his family and friends by surprise. In a media interview, Murdia said, “People believe that as a child, you cannot take life-changing decisions, and doing engineering from an IIT guarantees lakhs of rupees per month.” He said that his choice can inspire other students who want to leave IIT and pursue a career in a different field.
He said, “I have seen that students who excel in mathematics and physics are taking up programs like electrical engineering and computer science. My decision is aimed at encouraging those who want to pursue their passion for pure science.”
