Johannesburg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reached the G20 summit organized for the first time in Africa. During his speech at this summit, he stressed the need for deep rethinking of the parameters of global development. In his address, he promoted ‘economic development projects that take everyone along’. He said that ‘for years the G20 has guided global finance and development, but the current model deprives large populations of resources, the impact of which is particularly felt in Africa’.
In his address, PM Modi proposed three new and important global initiatives. The main points of his speech are as follows-
1. Global Traditional Knowledge Repository
The Prime Minister said that many communities in the world still preserve environmentally-balanced, culturally rich and socially harmonious ways of life.
On this basis, he proposed to create a ‘Global Traditional Knowledge Repository’ under G20.
India’s Indian Knowledge Systems initiative can become a strong foundation for this platform.
This repository will document traditional knowledge, life-style and sustainable practices.
Its objective is to preserve and share these knowledge systems with future generations.

2. G20-Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative
Describing Africa’s rapid development as a global interest, PM Modi proposed the G20-Africa Skills Multiplier.
This initiative will be based on train-the-trainers model.
All G20 partners will together provide financing and support.
Target: To create 10 lakh certified trainers in Africa in the next 10 years, who will in turn provide skills to crores of youth.

3. G20 initiative to counter the drug-terror nexus
The Prime Minister expressed grave concern over the rapid spread of extremely lethal synthetic drugs like fentanyl.
He said that this problem is a big threat to public health, social stability and global security.
He therefore proposed a dedicated G20 initiative to counter the ‘drug–terror nexus’ –

The drug smuggling network will be broken.
Illegal financial flows will be stopped.
A major funding source of terrorism will be weakened.
