If you want to amp up your healthy eating, try being a matchmaker to your already nutritious meals to get double the benefits as they bring out the best in each other.
Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist with 25 years of experience and trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford University, shared a post on Instagram on November 20 about some healthy food combinations that can supercharge your healthy eating game.
Here are the food combinations suggested by Dr. Sethi:
1. Chia Seeds with Yogurt
Chia seeds are skyrocketing in popularity in the fitness world, and for all valid reasons too, as they are widely celebrated for easing bowel movements and supporting gut health. Similarly, curd has also become a major part of stomach-friendly diet. When these are combined the benefits increase manifold.
Revealing the benefits, Dr Sethi said, “Eat chia seeds with curd as the soluble fiber and protein improve digestion and satiety.”
This means that the combination of these two helps keep you full for longer, keeps cravings at bay and improves digestion.
2. Oats with Walnuts
Oats are commonly chosen when someone is looking for a healthy breakfast, while walnuts are accepted as a healthy fat and brain-healthy food. Dr. Sethi shares the importance of their combination, “Eat oats with walnuts as the beta-glucan fiber and omega-3s support cholesterol and heart health.” So, if you’re wondering what to sprinkle on your oatmeal, consider walnuts, as they help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and greatly aid heart and brain health.
3. Rice with beans
Rice is a major part of the Indian diet and sometimes it can be harmful due to its high carbohydrate content. But you can make rice healthier with beans. “Eat rice with beans because together they form a complete protein with all the essential amino acids,” advises Dr. Sethi. This combination provides your body with amino acids, which help build muscles and boost the immune system.
4. Avocado with Leafy Greens
It seems like double the green, double the power? Often, leafy greens are recommended in the diet. Adding avocado further increases the nutritional power of green vegetables. According to Dr. Sethi, you get many vitamins from this combination.
“Eat avocado with leafy greens because the fat helps you absorb fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K,” says the gastroenterologist.
5. Dark Chocolate with Almonds
Dark chocolate becomes even healthier when mixed with almonds. Gastroenterologists report that the magnesium from chocolate, combined with the healthy fats in almonds, helps improve mood, boost energy, and maintain blood sugar levels.
