What is this digestive detox drink?
According to Alaya, this juice contains ajwain (carom seeds), cumin (cumin), saunf (fennel seeds), adrak (crushed ginger), pudina (mint leaves), and some pre-soaked sabja seeds (basil seeds). The combination of these spices is rooted in traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda) and is popular for its digestive properties.
What are the benefits?
According to Shalini Bliss, head dietitian at PSRI Hospital, drinking fluids before bed maintains hydration, aids in nutrient transport, cell repair and skin elasticity. Staying hydrated helps your kidneys flush out metabolic waste and toxins more effectively. Drinking too many fluids in the evening can increase urine output at night, leading to frequent awakenings. “For people with overactive bladder, kidney disease, or other urinary tract issues, it may be advisable to limit evening fluid intake,” cautions Sukh Sabia, MD, nutritionist and wellness services at McCure Hospital.

To make this drink instantly at home, add ½ tsp celery, ½ tsp cumin, ½ tsp fennel and ½ tsp crushed ginger in water and boil it for 5 minutes. Then add mint leaves and boil for 2 minutes. Finally, strain it into a cup and add 1 teaspoon of pre-soaked sabja and your night drink is ready!
