Neral-Matheran toy train restarted after five months, this 118 year old heritage railway is an attraction for tourists. Aman Lodge-Matheran shuttle is also providing regular service. The beautiful valley track of the 21 km long Neral-Matheran route was closed due to heavy rains in early June.
This train was closed keeping in mind the safety of passengers.Mumbai The famous toy train between Neral and Matheran Hill Station in Maharashtra started again from Thursday. This train was running closed for five months. With this the wait of the tourists ended. The beautiful valley track of the 21 km long Neral-Matheran route was closed due to heavy rains in early June. This decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of the passengers. However, the small shuttle train of Aman Lodge-Dasturi Point continued to run even during monsoon.
Matheran, situated in the Western Ghats, is the smallest hill station of India. Every year there is heavy rain here, landslides, track breakage and washing away are common. Therefore, every year the train service is stopped here for several months. On Wednesday, Central Railways wrote on X: ‘Neral-Matheran train has returned. Service starts from 06.11.2025. Misty hills, green valleys, historical journey…come see the beauty of Matheran and Neral.
This is the schedule
From Neral: 8:50 am and 10:25 am reaching Matheran and 11:30 pm and 1:05 pm. It will leave from Matheran at 2:45 pm and 4:00 pm in the afternoon. There will be 6 coaches in each train. There will be 3 second class, 2 general second class. Also, the first train has vistadome coaches (big windows, glass roof) and the second train has first class coaches.
shuttle service
Apart from this, Aman Lodge-Matheran shuttle will make 6 trips on Monday-Friday and 8 trips on Saturday-Sunday. Aman Lodge station is near Dasturi Point. No vehicle can go beyond here, hence shuttle is a convenience for tourists and local people.
118 year old railway line
Neral-Matheran Light Railway, started in 1907, has completed 118 years this year. This heritage mountain railway still attracts people. Every year a large number of tourists go to visit.
