A recent study published in Jama Oncology harassed how some bacteria and fungi in the mouth can increase the risk of pancreatic cancer. According to new research conducted by NYU Langon Health and Perlmater Cancer Center, a total of 27 types of bacteria and fungal species were identified in the mouth microbiome that can contribute to the most deadly cancer.

Investigators considered factors such as medical history, smoking habits, and age during the study. Conclusions detected 24 species of bacteria and fungi which were associated with increased or low risk of pancreatic cancer. Meanwhile, it was observed that three more bacteria were associated with gum disease and pancreatic cancer.
According to Jiang ego, who is also an associate director for population science at the Nyu Perlmater Cancer Center, oral microbiom profiles can serve as a non-invasive biomarker, who can identify high-risk individuals. These weak individuals can be treated through early detection methods for pancreatic cancer.
This study established a relationship between poor oral health and pancreatic cancer in relation to specific species of bacteria which are potential criminals. Therefore, good oral health is not only important for erosion and uprooting the bad breath, but also affects overall systemic health, requiring regular brushing, flossing and dental care.
Highlighting the findings, the spokesperson of the American Dental Association, Kumar, who was not involved in the study, said, “We cannot separate oral cavity or oral diseases from diseases anywhere else in the body,” said Fox News Digital.
