Riya Vyas, founder of Anlom Yoga and Wellness Studios, co-founder of Delhi and Sol Wellness, is popularizing centuries-old yogic breathing techniques, called Sama Vriti Pranayama, also known as box-faith. This technique has the ability to immediately take your brain to the ground, calm the nervous system and make pockets in chaos.

In an Instagram video posted on July 28, yoga and wellness experts expanded simple steps to box-believe as a grounding technique to stay for a few minutes, when something was stressing you.

How to practice Samra Vritti Pranayama

Riya underlined the simple steps for box-faith, starting her video, “If you are someone who struggles with stress and anxiety, here it is an easy breathing practice that you can try and add to your daily life.” Here is a step-by-step breakdown:

  • Sit in a comfortable position.

Keep your right palm on your stomach and your left palm to anchor yourself on your heart.

  • Inhale gently for four cases.
  • Stop and stop your breath for one and four count.
  • Slowly exhale for four counts.
  • Grab again for four counts.

You have to repeat this process for the next 5 minutes and Riya promised that you would feel more comfortable and calm in the end.

How does this work?

The practice of Sama Vriti Pranayama calms the nervous system, reduces stress and anxiety, improves focus, and increases overall well -being. According to an article by Yogabasics, “Sama” means the same, while “Vrati” means mental ups and downs, so the total phrase translates into “equal mental ups and downs”. This is a ratio breathing technique that aims to reduce mental nonsense and distractions using the same inhalation, exhalation, exhalation and the prescribed length of respirators.

This pranayama helps to equal, harmonize and balance the “soul” flowing through the energy channels of the body. According to Yogabasics, “A conscious use of a diaphragm to increase the air flow in the lungs is a great way to improve deep breathing and improve your ability to bring oxygen to the lungs.” It slows down the heart rate, increases the supply of oxygen to the brain and reduces anxiety. Practicing this pranayama regularly can improve focus and can promote good sleep and relaxation.
