A pilot study has shown that Indian educational institutions have faced over two lakh cyber attacks and about four lakh data violations in just nine months.
The study of “Cyber threats and digital risks for Indian educational institutions” was organized under the head of the Cyberpiece Foundation in collaboration with the study, delenet, rescurity and autobot Infosak.
It was released on Wednesday with the launch of the “Cyber First Responder” initiative, which was aimed at classing students, faculty, librarians and employees with skills to compete with cyber threats, deepfacs and misuse of artificial intelligence.

The nine-month study conducted between July 2023 and April 2024 found more than 8,000 unique user names and 54,000 unique passwords, which were being used in cruel-force attacks. The targeted user names were usually included “root” and “administrator”, while weak passwords, such as “123456” and “password”, were often attempted.
The report stated, “Five -fold more unsafe for data violations than counterparts with strong cyber practices in Indian educational institutions,” the report states that violations can lead to faculty, fishing attacks, deepfac materials, sensitive research data theft and leakage of examination papers.

Director of Delenet, Dr. Sangeeta Kaul called Cyber First Responatory Initiative “a commitment to shaping, not only response, changes”, while the founder and global President of Cyberpiece Foundation, Vineet Kumar, described the report as a “wake-up call” to educational institutions.
Kumar said, “Digitization is like building a house without doors or locks without cyber security. Innovation cannot flourish without flexibility,” Kumar said, the program aims to misbehave in the first line and academics against cyber threats.
