The monsoon can sing its heart with a calm rain, intimate winds, green scenes and a soothing fall in temperature. The weather is naturally romantic, or that the surface-level, mainstream feeling feels you. Because in fact, the monsoon season brings challenges for health. Let’s look closely how the monsoon can negatively affect heart health, even if someone’s ‘heart’ can be understood as the monsoon as romantic.

Senior Director of Interventional Cardiology, Cardiac Care, Medanta, Gurugram, Dr. Nagendra Singh Chauhan shared that the monsoon affects both psychological and physical health, which in turn puts extra stress on the heart.

Highlighting the unexpected monsoon season, he said, “The monsoon season is characterized by increased rainfall and cooler temperature, provides a change from summer conditions. However, this period also presents specific challenges for heart health. Monsoon can increase the risk of cardiac complications, require an understanding of these factors and a understanding of preactering measures.

Dr. Nagendra Singh Chauhan listed the monsoon season and environmental conditions and how they all affect heart health:

1. Moist environment

  • Increase in infection: The moist and humid environment promotes the spread of pathogens, leading to an increase in viral and bacterial infections, including influenza, common cold and gastroenteritis.
  • People with pre -existing heart conditions are at risk: For persons with pre -present heart conditions, these infections pose a significant risk. The infection triggers a systemic inflammatory response, which can put additional stress on the heart.
  • Increase in some conditions of heart: This stress can result in arrhythmia, can increase the risk of heart failure, or in susceptible individuals, contribute to myocardial infarction. The body’s immune response also increases the demand for metabolism, furthering a compromised cardiac system.

2. Upsuria

  • Blood pressure instability: Rift in temperature and humidity can affect the regulation of blood pressure. While the drops of the initial temperature can appear beneficial, rapid changes can induce vasoconstiction or vasodilation, leading to blood pressure instability.
  • People with high blood pressure and pulmonary conditions are at risk: For people suffering from high blood pressure, this instability is particularly dangerous. High humidity can also disrupt respiration, especially for people with underlying pulmonary conditions, which increases the heart work to maintain sufficient oxygen.

3. Lower sunlight

  • Why are people sad in monsoon: Low sunlight and frequent storm conditions can trigger seasonal emotional disorders (SADs) or spoil existing mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
  • Why worry, stress is bad for the heart: Cronic stress and anxiety are risk factors installed for heart disease, as they can increase heart rate, elevated blood pressure and systemic inflammation.

Lifestyle changes that help

Dr. Nagendra Singh threw light on the great concern of people being inactive and staying indoors due to continuous rains. Due to this sedentary lifestyle, it reduces weight gain and heart fitness. In addition, monsoon increases craving for tea, fritters and street food. But Dr. Singh reminded that these include high fat and high sodium, which directly affect heart health. The poor hygiene state of street food also takes a toll on the intestine.

He shared 7 essential health measures that help one stay healthy and protect heart health:

  1. Cleanliness and Vaccination: Follow rigid hand hygiene to prevent infection. Influenza or pneumococcal vaccination is recommended, especially for individuals with heart conditions, to reduce the risk of serious illness according to your doctor’s advice.
  2. Diet Management: Avoid unhealthy relaxing foods. Give preference to home-rich foods rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Limit processed foods, excessive sodium and unhealthy fat.
  3. Indoor physical activity: Despite the weather conditions, maintain the level of physical activity. Attach indoor exercises such as yoga, stretching, or use of treadmills. Constant, even brief, activity contributes to heart fitness.
  4. Blood pressure monitoring: Individuals with high blood pressure should regularly monitor blood pressure and consult a physician about significant ups and downs.
  5. Halid: To prevent dehydration and support physical functions, ensure adequate hydration by taking sufficient clean, boiled water.
  6. stress management: Apply stress-less techniques including meditation or deep breathing exercises. Take professional assistance for frequent anxiety or depression.
  7. Avoid self-medication: Consult a medical professional for the disease. Self-medication, especially with over-the-counter drugs that can interact with heart drugs, pose risk.
