In many weight loss trends that revolve online, protein intake in one of the most popular food is increasing. Protein is known to support you longer, reduce craving and support muscle building while burning fat. But does this mean that we should load on protein without caution? Health and nutrition coach Nikita Burdia warned against it. On 15 May, Nikita shared an Instagram post that explained the downside of being too much protein. “When I started consuming protein, I also started gaining weight. You should know things before loading on the protein,” he wrote.
1. Protein can still increase you weight, if you are in a surplus
If your maintenance is 1800 kcal and you are eating 2100 kcal (even clean, high-protein foods), you will get fat. Calorie still matters.
Indian Examples:
- 150g Paneer = 270 kcal
- 1 scoop plant protein = 120 kcal
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter = 200 kg calories
If you are not tracking your intake then it adds rapidly!
2. Not all protein is lean protein
Many Indian sources are protein-fetish combos (cheese, peanuts, cheese, lentils). You may think that you are eating high protein, but you are consuming too much hidden fat. Also read Are you a vegetarian? Nutritionists share 11 high-protein foods to naturally promote daily protein intake
Better vegetarian swap?
- Swap Cheese for Tofu
- Peanut for roasted gram
- Use Greek yogurt (unheard, low fat)
3. Very much protein without power training = stored energy.
Protein supports muscle repair, but if you do not pick up or take training, additional protein becomes extra calories, often stored as fat, not as muscles.
turn: Protein does not go into muscle by default. You have to give signal (resistance training) to your body.
4. Your digestive and kidney work area.
If you feel puffed up after a high protein food, feel ges or heavy, your stomach may not be ready for that jump. Fix digestion before doubling your protein. Cumin and celery water, add fermented foods, and chew with the mind.
5. You do not need 100 grams of protein overnight.
Start small: 0.8g per kg of your ideal body weight. Then make it with training and biofeedback. Also read Very tired for cooking? Dieticians share 5 high-proteins but to prepare easy food
