Kohima, Nagaland Chief Minister NeePou Rio said on Saturday that the state should move away from temporary school structures and focus on the construction of permanent, quality infrastructure to ensure long -term educational progress.
He was speaking during the virtual opening of 51 school infrastructure projects funded under the Samagra Nisha scheme organized at the Chief Minister’s residential campus here.
The projects states 15 new school buildings, additional classes in 17 schools, quarters of 18 teachers and a residential hostel, spread in various districts, a DIPR statement.
Calling it a “important step” in strengthening the education sector, Rio thanked the Center for its continuous support and Mission Director L. for effectively implementing projects in the state. The state Samagra Shikha Mission under the leadership of Jamitung Lotha was praised.
The CM said that despite the difficult geographical regions of the state, efforts were being made to continuously improve the infrastructure of the school, especially in remote areas.
“While infrastructure is important, it is not enough in itself. Community participation and ownership are equally important to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of features,” he said.
Rio also insisted that quality education is central for development. “It empowers citizens, enhances economic growth, creates opportunities, and helps create a responsible and rich society,” he said.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to create a safe, inclusive and nutrition environment for the overall development of students.
Advisor for schooling and SCERT, Kakhriyalhauli Yome, shared detailed figures on the infrastructure of a government school, stating that 13,767 out of 16,087 rooms in government schools are used for direct purposes, while resting laboratories, libraries and teachers serve as rooms.
Yom insisted that the department has played an important role in addressing the interval of funding infrastructure under Samagra Shikha and said the department’s goal of bringing back one lakh school children by 2030.
This, he said, will improve both educational results and economic conditions for families.
In his introductory comments, Director of State Mission L. Jamitung Lotha underlined the objectives of the scheme, which integrates the previous center-resonated schemes-Sarva Shikha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Education Policy 2020 with Teacher Education-Education-Education-Shiksha-Shiksha-Shiksha.
He highlighted major interventions such as school construction development, textbooks and uniform provisions, teacher training and smart classes, while also raised implementation challenges.
