The 27.5-hour count for the launch of the NASA-Icero Synthetic Aperture Radar (Nisar) satellite began at 2:10 pm on Tuesday, confirmed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The satellite has been scheduled to ride on the GSLV-F16 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota at 5:40 pm on Wednesday.
The launch marks the 102nd mission from the Indian Spaceport and is important for the first Geosinkronus Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) mission directed for Sun-Synchronous Polar Orbit.
For more than a decade, NASA and Jointly developed by ISRO, Nisar Mission aims to distribute high-resolution, double-band radar data that will help in monitoring changes in the land and ice surfaces of the Earth. Earlier this year, the partnership was renewed after a discussion between the United States and India leaders.
The GSLV-F16 stands at 51.7 meters, a three-phase launch vehicle and the flight represents its 18th mission. This is also the ninth time when the rocket will work using an indigenous cryogenic upper phase.
Once launched, the satellite is expected to reach a specified orbit of about 740 kilometers above the Earth after a 19 -minute flight. Unlike the previous Indian Earth observation satellites, which were mainly focused on the national region, Nisar is designed for global monitoring.
The satellite has two radar systems: an L-band provided by NASA and a ISRO-supply S-band synthetic aperture radar. Together, they enable perfectly polar and interferometric imaging, which is able to capture the detailed measurement of land displacement, ice sheet movement and dynamics of the ecosystem every 12 days.
Nisar will apply a sweepsar mode, a technique that combines high resolution with a wide imaging health. This feature is expected to significantly improve the mapping of land changes over time, including coastal erosion, glacier shifts and agricultural changes.
ISRO highlighted that this mission widespread the scope of international data -sharing and cooperation, constructing an astronaut cooperation during previous joint efforts such as Chandrayaan -1 and ASIOM Mission 4 at International Space Station.
With Nisar, both space agencies intend to support scientific research in areas such as natural disasters, sea-level growth and climate change using adapted radar imaging equipment for long-term environmental observation.
The launch is currently running with the second launch pad, about 135 km from Chennai, with a final preparation.
