Typhoon Wipha Hits Vietnam: The fierce cyclone ‘Vifa’ has increased rapidly towards Vietnam after having havoc in the Philippines, Hong Kong and China. On July 20, the speed of its winds reached 167 km/h at Hong Kong, which was equal to the category-1 Hurricane. Its strong winds and heavy rains have proved to be destructive, whose pictures will be shocked.

At this time there is only one name in the countries present around the southern China Sea – Hurricane Wifa. Vifa is a storm from the South China Sea, which began as a low pressure area in the east of Palau in the Pacific Ocean on 17, July 2025. Due to the warm sea surface and low wind sheer it rapidly turned into a tropical storm. On July 19, it reached the storm near the east coast of Luzon Island in the Philippines. There it was named Crissing.

In the Philippines, Vifa intensified the monsoon. Here 3,70,000 people were affected by this, 43,000 had to take shelter, and more than 400 houses were damaged. One person died in Kagayan province and three are missing. The disaster situation was also declared in Sebu and Pangasinen.

On July 20, it came under the category of Vifa typhoon, when its winds reached a speed of 167 km per hour. After this, the storm moved towards Hong Kong and Gwangdong province of southern China. It landed twice on 20-21 July here.

When Hong Kong reached Hong Kong with T10 signal, it was very powerful. The winds were so strong that humans should fly away. People saved themselves by taking a shelter in this situation. 471 trees were uprooted due to the storm, 26 people were injured. More than 400 flights were canceled due to the storm, affecting 80,000 passengers. Rainfall was recorded up to 110 mm in just three hours.

After Hong Kong, the storm moved to Taishan and Yangjiang of Guangdong in China. Wherever there was havoc due to the storm. After the landfall, the viffa caused power cuts, floods and closure of ports. Flights and train services were also disrupted in Jhhahai and Macau due to the storm.

By 22 July 2025, it reached 367 km east of Hanoi, Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin. Here too, the speed of the storm has come under control but there is not much relief. Even now, the speed of the storm is expected to be 103-117 km per hour. However, the speed of further winds will be slightly lower and it will move towards west with a speed of 85 kilometers per hour.

Let us tell you that the word vifa means grandeur in Thai. Although this storm is not grand but scary. During this time, the strong winds and black reduction are causing fear. It is in discussion for its fast changing nature. Scientists associate the intensity of such storms with scientific climate change because only the hot surface of the sea gives it strength.

However, Vifa is not as powerful as super typhoon Yagi and Typhoon. During these storms, winds were at a speed of 240 km and 315 km per hour and these have been historical storms. Despite this too, heavy rains during this vaifa are making it disastrous. (All photos credit- reuters)
