Have you ever tried eating toothpicks? Sounds strange doesn’t it? But not for some South Koreans who are chasing this bizarre social media trend. Recently, video clips have been going viral on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, showing individuals enjoying deep-fried starchy toothpicks, often mixed with powdered cheese.
In light of this situation, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in a recent post on Safety has not been verified. Therefore, they strongly discourage its consumption. Videos depicting the frying and consumption of these toothpicks, commonly used for sanitary purposes, are spreading rapidly.

Made from sweet potato or corn starch, these toothpicks are colored green using food coloring. These are considered eco-friendly and biodegradable. In addition to use in restaurants throughout South Korea, they can also be used to pick up finger foods.
