Governor Josh Green has unveiled plans to impose a $25 (roughly Rs. 2,000) visitor fee when people visit or check-in at hotels, adding the US state to a rapidly growing list of destinations exploring a tourism tax policy. Has also joined.
“A climate impact fee on visitors will provide needed resources to protect our environment and raise awareness about the impacts of climate change,” Gov. The proposal is one of several ways Hawaii plans to tackle overtourism after introducing a ‘visitor impact fee’ in 2023 to purchase licenses to visit natural areas such as hiking trails and state parks. Although the exact amount was never finalized, Green campaigned for a hefty $50 fee for “admission to the state”.
