Abuja At least 22 athletes were killed on Saturday in a bus accident in the northern Nigerian state of Kano. The state governor said that the incident happened when the bus carrying the athlete fell down from the bridge. All 35 athletes in the bus were returning home from the National Sports Festival, in which they went to the Ogun state in the south-west of the country last week.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said that the driver of the bus lost control of the bus while crossing the Chiromawa bridge on the Kano-Year Expressway. Many other passengers were also injured in the accident.
