(Bloomberg)-According to a report by the World Meteorological Organization, with the forecast of the new temperature high over the next five years, the human-made climate change will continue to heat up the planet.
The report states that the average temperature of the world will be 1.2C and 1.9C higher than average in pre-industrial times. Warming will increase extreme weather events that will affect societies and economies.
“Our economies, our daily life, our ecosystem and our planet will have growing negative effects,” said WMO Deputy General Secretary KO Barrett. “Unfortunately, this WMO report does not indicate relief in the coming years.”
Global leaders committed to cut greenhouse gas emissions at those levels that will keep the planets warm at 1.5C above pre-industrial time when signing the Paris Agreement a decade ago. The global average temperature exceeded the 1.5C limit last year on an annual basis for the first time, a sign that the country is failing to limit warming.
The average temperature for the next five years will be more than 1.5C, it has increased quickly over time, in the 2023 report, 32% possibility is 70% in this year’s report. WMO stated that there is also a possibility of 80% that at least one out of the next five years will be warm compared to 2024, the hottest year on the record, WMO said.
Each additional fraction of a degree of warming will be intense, persistent and harmful heat waves, excessive rain and drought. The snow sheets will melt rapidly and therefore the sea ice and glaciers will be found. Ocean will continue warming and sea level will also increase.
The WMO stated that the Arctic is estimated to be warmer than 3.5 times the global average in the next five winter – from November to March – from the average temperature between 1991 and 2020, at 2.4C, WMO said.
Rain patterns vary widely in regions, expecting wet with Sahel, Northern Europe, Alaska and Northern Siberia, and Amazon is expected to dry this season.
