New Delhi, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Friday claimed that during the previous government, “Mismanagement” had treated some city schools “wrongly” their students.
His comments after inspecting the Delhi Public School, Dwarka by a high-level committee, after the allegations, said that it had expelled 32 students on “arbitrary” fee hike and deployed bouncers to prevent these students from entering the premises.
Sood said that after inspection, the Directorate of Education directed the school to restore the expelled students within three days. The department also directed that to withdraw its earlier communication about expulsion and ensure that no student faces discrimination related to fees.
The committee, which included the Finance Secretary, Vice Chancellor of a University in Delhi, Director of Education and a Chartered Accountant were assigned to review the case.
According to an official, Dr. The Vice Chancellor of Bribedkar University, Anu Singh Lathar led the school committee and inspection.
In an official order on Thursday, the DOE said the school functions violated court directions that prevent schools from increasing fees without departmental approval. The High Court had earlier ruled that students could not be removed from school rolls due to fees disputes and should not face force or discrimination in any form.
Sudy said, “Since 2020, the school has been involved in controversies over the increase of fee, and the case is still pending in the court. Due to the mismanagement of the previous government, some schools in Delhi have started misbehaving with students.”
He said that the Directorate of Education has been instructed to take appropriate action in such cases nor should the schools nor the parents take legal matters in their hands.
“All schools in Delhi should follow government rules and regulations,” Sood said.
More than 100 parents approached the Delhi High Court on Thursday, seeking security for their children amidst the ongoing dispute. He has requested the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and handle the administration of the school.
In his petition, the parents alleged that DPS Dwarka is using pressure strategy to collect unused fees. He claimed that the school had earlier increased the monthly fee 7,000 and recently increased it 9,000 without official approval.
The DOE has asked the school to submit a compliance report within three days.
No immediate response was available from the school authority.
