India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is affecting press briefing by the Government of India on tension between India and Pakistan.
Top Indian diplomats, who have been at the forefront of “situations like fighter”, recently suffered to trolle on social media on “Indo-Pakistan ceasefire declaration”.
After facing abuses on social media plaforms, Vikram Misri closed his X account on Sunday.
Who is Vikram Misri?
Vikram Misri is a prestigious IFS officer. He is a career diplomat from the 1989 batch of Indian Foreign Service. [IFS]”The Ministry of External Affairs says.
He was the face of government functions and decisions during the four-day India-Pakistan conflict–The parties decided to stop military action after ‘bilateral understanding’.
Early life and education of Vikram Misri
Ambassador Vikram Misri was born in Srinagar and his early education was there (Burn Hall School and DAV School) as well as Udhampur (Carmel Convent School) in Jammu and Kashmir.
He studied at Scindia School in Gwalior and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Hindu College, Delhi University and a bachelor’s degree with MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur.
Ambassador Misri is married to Dolly Misri. they have two children.
Before joining the government, he worked in the advertisement for three years in the private sector (Lintas India-Bombay and Contract Advertising-Dely) and advertisement film-making.
Vikram is a Fellow of India Leadership Initiative (now Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship) of Vikram Misri Aspen Institute USA.
He speaks fluently Hindi, English and Kashmiri and has knowledge of working as French.
Vikram Misri’s diplomatic career
On July 15, 2024, Misri took charge as Foreign Secretary. He also served in various Indian missions in the Ministry of External Affairs, at the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi and in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America abroad.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador Vikram was part of the Pakistan Desk of the Ministry of External Affairs.
He also had work on employees of two foreign ministers (Ik Gujral and Pranab Mukherjee).
In addition to serving as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Vikram Misri also worked as a personal secretary of three principal ministers of India – Ik Gujral, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.
Ambassador Misri served abroad in Brussels, Tunis, Islamabad and Washington DC. He was the Deputy Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka and the Mahanu class of India in Munich.
He was appointed India’s Ambassador to Spain in 2014, Ambassador to Myanmar in 2016 and Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, where he served from January 2019 to December 2021.
He was recently India’s Deputy National Security Advisor (Strategic Affairs), a post that he held from 01 January 2022 to 30 June 2024.
Many people come in support of FS Vikram Misri
After social media trolling, many former diplomats and politicians came out in support of Vikram Misri. Former Foreign Secretary Nirupama Menon called the trolling of senior diplomat “completely embarrassing” and said that it “crosses every line of decency”
“This Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his family are completely embarrassing to troll the India-Pakistan ceasefire. A dedicated diplomat, Misri, has served with India’s professionalism and resolve, and has no basis for their destruction,” Menon said.
TMC MP Mahua Motra urged the Egyptian “Stand Strong”. He posted on X, “Foreign Secretary @vikrammisri & Family to see social media trolling – no professional diplomat should be to do his work.
The IAS Association also commented on expressing “solidarity with Shri Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, and his family”. It posted on X, “Inappropriate personal attacks on civil servants performing their duties with integrity are deeply regrettable. We confirm our commitment to maintain the dignity of public service.”
Comedian Veer Das also said, “Vikram Misri was amazing, so Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh were. Anyone who thinks is otherwise a fool.”
