Russian President Vladimir Putin, suddenly announced a 30-hour temporary ceasefire in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine War, announced a ‘Easter Trus’. However, the intention of this peace proposal was questioned when Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonski called this ‘peace effort’ as ‘pretense’ within just 12 hours and accused Russia of violating the ceasefire.
Putin on Saturday announced during a meeting with his general staff chief Varri Gararasimov that Russia would stop military activities for 30 hours on a humanitarian grounds. This ceasefire will remain in force till 10 pm on Sunday night (Moscow time on Monday night). Putin hoped that Ukraine would also follow it, but also ordered his soldiers to be prepared to respond to any ‘provocation or violation’.
What did Jailonski say on Putin’s offer?
However, Ukrainian President Jailonsky made it clear that if Russia really wants ‘full and unconditional silence’, then Ukraine will do the same. But he alleged that Russia violated the ceasefire only hours after Putin’s announcement.
Jailonsky wrote on the social media platform X, ‘Our steps will suit Russia’s footsteps. We still have a 30-day full and unconditional ceasefire offer on the table- the answer should now come from Moscow. He informed that war is still going on in Belgorod and Kursk areas of Russia and Russian drones are active. There is definitely some peace in some areas, but it is temporary.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiha also took a sarcasm at Putin’s 30-hour ceasefire and said, ‘Putin is now talking about the ceasefire- just 30 hours instead of 30 days. Unfortunately, their words and actions often do not match. We will believe in his works, not his statements.
Putin’s move after Trump government’s warning
Meanwhile, the Russian attitude from the US also raised questions. The Donald Trump administration warned on Friday that if there was no concrete progress in the Russia-Ukraine talks, the US would ‘remove’ from this process. Trump clearly said that ‘we have to decide in a few days now whether this process is really taking a direction or not. If not, we will move forward.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that the US will not be entangled for weeks and months in this effort ‘as it has other priorities. In fact, last month, Russia rejected the complete and unconditional ceasefire proposed by the US and Ukraine.
Let us know that this is not the first time that such a ‘ceasefire’ has been announced by Russia. In January 2023, the ceasefire was also tried during the Orthodox Christmas, but the proposal failed due to the failure of both sides.
The British Foreign Office spokesperson also targeted Putin, saying, “Now is the time that if Putin is serious about peace, then he should not just stop a day, but to end the war completely for Easter- as the Ukrainian government is demanding.”
Russia attacked Ukraine on a full scale on 24 February 2022. Since then, millions of people have been killed or injured, of which a large number of soldiers are.
Amidst all this, Putin’s 30 -hour ‘Easter Trus’ is not only under suspicion, but it is considered to be an attempt to get out of a political move and international pressure more than the real effort of peace… and Ukraine exposed it in a few hours.
