Link between tobacco, alcohol and oral cancer
Dr. Sanketh warned that tobacco and alcohol consumption increases the risk of oral cancer. “Tobacco smoke contains carcinogenic chemicals such as nitrosamine and polycyclic aeromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), while alcohol has solvent effects that increase carcinogenous absorption and reduce immune function.”

While alcohol and tobacco can increase the risk of oral cancer, Dr. Sankath said that the genetic instincts, inherited mutation and family history are also some other risk factors.
He further reported, “Orofurinjial cancer is associated with human papillomavirus (HPV), especially HPV -16 infections. Poor fruit and vegetable contributes to diet risk. In addition, long -term contact for ultraviolet radiation increases the risk of lip cancer, especially in people with fairness.”
Symptoms of oral cancer
Dr. According to Sankath, here are some early symptoms of oral cancer, for which you should look out:
- Constant ulcers or wounds that fail to heal within a period of 2-3 weeks.
- Immediate pain or discomfort.
- Difficulty in the movement of mouth, change in voice or rationality and sudden bleeding or numbness.
- Poor oral hygiene and sick-fitting dentures may increase the risk of oral cancer, which is caused by chronic irritation and inflammation.
Dr. Sankath said that anyone can assess these symptoms by monitoring ulcers healing time and assessing reaction to antibiotic treatment as signs of oral cancer persist despite treatment.
He said, “It has been observed that the signs of advanced oral cancer can continuously be judged through the difficulty in transferring large ulcers, jaws or tongues, loose teeth, sudden weight loss and increased lymph nodes. All these changes can be seen within 2-3 weeks.”
“However, it is advisable that if the symptoms persist for more than 2-3 weeks and if the unexplained bleeding increases and the movement of the tongue and jaw is as well as difficulty swallowing, it is advised.”
Preventive steps to avoid oral cancer
