The Government of Odisha has established a three -member committee, headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Satyabata Sahu, which is aimed at determining the leading circumstances for the death of the student.

The Odisha government has called Achuta Samant, the founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), to appear before 6:30 pm on Friday, February 21, 2025. According to PTI report, Samanta is expected to provide evidence and documentation related to the incident.
The three-member committee led by Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Satyabrata Sahu aims to determine the leading circumstances for the death of the student as well as the alleged misconduct of many Nepali students. The committee, including Secretary of Higher Education and Women and Child Development Departments, visited the KIIT campus on Wednesday, to meet with some affected Nepali students, the report said.
Five more staff members arrested
Police have also arrested five more staff members in Bhubaneswar, who bring the total number of arrests to 11. Five staff members were identified with CCTV footage, showing the alleged attack on students as they were going out of the hostel on Monday. The accused allegedly demanded to evacuate the students immediately and physically proceeded to attack them. A local court denied the accused of bail and sent them to judicial custody for 14 days. Earlier, five other KIIT employees were arrested and later released on bail.
Start classes in Kiit
Meanwhile, Kiit is gradually returning to normal condition after the 20-year-old Nepali student’s alleged suicide. On Thursday, a large number of students returned to classes and safety measures were increased.
The unrest of the campus began after the death of Prakrit Lamsal on Sunday, who was allegedly dead of suicide. Protests erupted, which suspended about 1,000 Nepali students suspension and their expulsion from the campus on Monday.

Police Commissioner K Dev Dutta Singh confirmed the arrest of a 21 -year -old engineering student and a three -day remand, alleging Lamsal’s suicide. The accused, Biju Patnaik, fled at the International Airport, while attempting to escape, faced allegations of blackmail and oral misconduct.
Voice spectraography tests will be conducted as part of the test. Police have seized mobile phones and laptops related to both the deceased and the accused for forensic analysis.
